Lincart Gallery is pleased to present “Precious Cargo”, a two person show featuring new work by local artists
Gail Tarantino and Darrel Mortimer.
Gail Tarantino lives and works in her Emeryville studio with an intimate view of the freight trains whooshing by her window. These beasts of industry are often loaded with colorful shipping containers, stacked like giant leggos making their way to sea. As an astute observer with a penchant for extracting beauty from unexpected places, Gail finds a muse in the cargo in motion. This exhibition will feature works on paper, canvas, and a video inspired by her room with a view.
Darrel “Pipeman” Mortimer has traveled up and down the Western frontier by way “riding the rails”. This rugged tradition has provided a source of freedom, adventure and community for Darrel, who lives and works by an unflappable code of self-reliance. He is a self-taught artist who has honed the craft of carving and drawing as a means of survival. We are thrilled to showcase his newest drawings, paintings and carvings in the fine art context they deserve.
