Lincart is very pleased to announce an exhibition of vessels, drawings and ephemera by Dada legend, Beatrice Wood. An exuberant artist whose work spanned at least nine decades and has always transcended easy genre categorization, Beato’s work created a wake of infamy, wherever she went. Famous as a traditional ceramist, and dubbed the " doyenne of lusterware", she was also well known for her esoteric drawings, as well her more lyrical, sculptural work in clay. One of the reasons her work as an artist is so important today is because she was a lover of Duchamp and infamous colleague of such greats as Man Ray, Picabia, Gertrude Stein, Anais Nin, Krishnamurti, et. al. This contextualizes her work across several generations. Perhaps most importantly, her lifestyle and panache are recalled here in this show, which features erotic drawings, classical ceramic work and a stunning collection of her own costume jewelry and clothing. The lifestyle element here is what makes this yet another great Lincart show.
“Young Men and Chocolate” runs through December 31, 2006.
