Lincart is pleased to announce a group exhibition featuring new work by Bay Area artists Tim Evans, Mike Park and MeeNa Park from Seoul, Korea.
When: Thursday, September 14th, 6 to 9pm
Where: Lincart gallery, 1632 C Market St. SF, 94102
After receiving her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from Hunter College in NYC, MeeNa Park has kept busy by exhibiting her research driven conceptual paintings worldwide. For this first show at Lincart, she will apply her “false science” of recording the colors of a locality, in this case San Francisco, and will organize them methodically into a wall painting on-site in the gallery. Also on view will be a series of color diagrams she recently made while participating in a residency in Jerusalem. For this work, she collected 15 man made colors from each of the old city’s quarters where the four religions; Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Moslem, all claim their roots. The resulting work is four different “maps” that sythesize her data and function as a social experiment illuminating how the quarters may be similar or different.
Mike Park’s whimsically narrative paintings are exquisitely crafted from polymer coated acrylic on wood panel. Gathering the content from both his immediate surroundings as well as the far reaches of his imagination, his paintings tell quirky stories which captivate the viewer with their luminous multi-layers of paint and fantastical detail. Mike lives in the Bay Area and received his Bachelors degree in 1997 from California College of the Arts in Oakland. This will be his third exhibition with Lincart.
Tim Evans’ keen eye manifests itself in his talent as an artist as well as an independent curator. His extensive travels throughout Japan and China have infused his vividly colorful paintings and drawings with the influence of contemporary Asian art. Familiar pop culture imagery, pornographic icons and cartoonish creatures mingle madly upon his vibrant canvases and form a madcap mélange of the Id. Tim has an MFA from Hunter College in NYC and has recently relocated to the Bay Area.
